Imran Khan’s PTI Challenges Election Commission’s Inquiry in Lahore High Court

Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has taken legal action against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by filing a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition, submitted by PTI Chairman Barrister Ghar Ali Khan through lawyer Azhar Bhandari, contests the ECP’s inquiry into the party’s intra-party elections and the non-return of seized goods during a raid on the PTI office.

PTI argues that the ECP’s actions are biased and requests the court to declare them null and void. This follows the ECP’s dismissal of four miscellaneous applications submitted by PTI in the intra-party election case. The ECP’s 10-page decision, written by Sindh’s member Nisar Durrani, rejected PTI’s objections and advised the party to seek the court’s help for the return of documents.

The ECP emphasized its responsibility under Section 208 of the Election Act 2017 to review legal requirements and examine facts before issuing certificates under Section 209(3). Earlier, the Pakistan Supreme Court had questioned the ECP’s exclusion of PTI from general elections and urged the ECP to ensure fair treatment for all political parties.
