Imran Khan Forms Committee to Oversee Corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, Pakistan – August 5: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, has established a three-member committee to oversee corruption and governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This province is governed by PTI following the general elections in February 2024.

Committee Members

The committee includes:

  • Former KP governor Shah Farman
  • Former advisor on accountability Musaddiq Abbasi
  • Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Qazi Anwar

PTI legislator and KP Information Advisor Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif stated that Imran Khan has given the committee instructions to investigate claims against ministers and administrative secretaries. If allegations are proven, action will be taken against the officials involved.

Background

The decision to form the committee came after provincial minister Shakeel Khan protested to Imran Khan in jail about theft in several KP departments. The committee will monitor the performance of the provincial government and report to Khan, who is currently behind bars.

Statements from PTI

Saif also mentioned that federal ministers’ criticism of the KP administration is an attempt to hide issues at the central government. He claimed that PTI’s 11-year performance led to the expulsion of all other political parties from the province. Additionally, Saif demanded federal ministers address the high-cost contracts with independent power plants (IPPs), which he claims are causing loadshedding and inflated electricity bills.
