Imran Khan Faces New Charges for Alleged Incitement in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), for allegedly inciting a government officer to mutiny. The FIA team visited Adiala Jail to question Khan about a controversial post on his official X account but left without his cooperation as Khan insisted on having his lawyers present.
Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, stated that the FIA would investigate the handling of Khan’s social media accounts, which were allegedly used to create chaos and undermine national security. Tarar mentioned that it would be determined who was managing Khan’s social media accounts and whether the posts were made on his behalf or directed by someone else.
Tarar further alleged that Khan attempted to conspire against the sitting chief justice and heads of other institutions through these posts, which he described as highly condemnable. The message posted from Khan’s account was considered tantamount to sedition and creating anarchy in the country. Tarar also noted that Khan had compared himself to Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehman but seemed unaware of the current situation in Bangladesh, where statues of Mujeeb-ur-Rehman were demolished by the people.
Regarding Khan’s jail accommodations, Tarar claimed that Khan had all the necessary amenities in his cell, likening it to a presidential suite, yet continued to criticize government agencies. Tarar emphasized that no one would be allowed to attack state institutions at any cost.
