Imran Khan Criticizes 26th Amendment and Jail Treatment in Pakistan

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed strong disapproval of the recently passed 26th constitutional amendment. He accused those who supported the bill of betraying the nation. The amendment, passed by the National Assembly and Senate, sets the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s term at three years.

Speaking from Adiala Jail, Khan alleged mistreatment, claiming he was confined in darkness and denied visits. He vowed to continue fighting for Pakistan’s freedom despite these hardships.

Khan also criticized Nawaz Sharif, accusing him of prioritizing personal wealth over Pakistan’s interests. He highlighted Sharif’s frequent travels to the UK and labeled him as sidelined in political terms.

Additionally, Khan raised concerns about the abduction of his associate, Intazar Panjutha, citing it as a personal vendetta against him. He lamented the lack of legal action and described the situation as lawless.

The amendment outlines a new process for appointing the Chief Justice, involving a 12-member parliamentary committee and a Judicial Commission of Pakistan. This commission includes senior judges and legal representatives, tasked with Supreme Court appointments.
