Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Face Court Questions in £190 Million Settlement Case

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Questioned in Court

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, an accountability court has given a 14-page questionnaire to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, regarding a £190 million settlement case. The questionnaire, containing 79 questions, was handed over during a recent court hearing. Their lawyer, Salman Safdar, received it in their presence.

Details of the Case

The court is investigating whether Khan and his associates illegally gained monetary benefits, including land, by facilitating the transfer of £171.159 million out of £190 million meant for the State of Pakistan. The court cited evidence involving Shahzad Akbar, a former special assistant, who allegedly misled Khan with a note about funds frozen in the UK.

Allegations and Court Proceedings

The court claims that Khan, as Prime Minister, dishonestly added the note to a cabinet meeting agenda without proper procedure. The note was approved without discussion. The case involves cross-examinations of 35 witnesses, with the last one completed recently. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has concluded its evidence presentation.

Accusations Against Khan and Bibi

The case accuses Khan and Bibi of adjusting PKR 50 billion, equivalent to £190 million, sent by the UK’s National Crime Agency to Pakistan. They allegedly received land from a property tycoon in exchange for legalizing the tycoon’s black money. The settlement was approved by Khan’s cabinet without revealing the agreement’s details.
