IMF Predicts India’s Growth at 7% in 2024

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has maintained its growth projections for India, expecting the country’s economy to grow by 7% in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, and 6.5% in the following fiscal year. This adjustment comes as the demand surge from the pandemic subsides, allowing the economy to stabilize.

Global Economic Outlook

Globally, the IMF forecasts a steady growth rate of 3.2% for this year and the next. The US growth forecast for 2024 has been revised upward to 2.8%, with a further increase to 2.2% in 2025. Meanwhile, China’s growth rate has been slightly reduced to 4.8% for 2024, remaining unchanged at 4.5% for 2025.

Challenges and Optimism

The IMF highlights a mixed global economic outlook, with optimism regarding inflation but concerns over debt and geopolitical tensions. The Middle East’s ongoing tensions could impact commodity prices and trade. However, IMF Chief Economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas notes that the global fight against inflation is largely successful, with strong productivity growth observed in the US.
