IMD Predicts More Rain as Monsoon Advances in North India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the southwest monsoon is advancing into more parts of North India, with heatwave conditions subsiding. The monsoon has already reached parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and Punjab.

Conditions are favorable for further monsoon advancement into more parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu in the next two to three days.

A trough at mean sea level runs off Maharashtra-north Kerala coasts, and a cyclonic circulation lies over central Gujarat, extending to west Bihar. This will cause widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Scattered rainfall is expected in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next five days.

Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in Konkan and Goa from June 27 to July 1, Coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra, and Kutch on June 27 and 28, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh on June 27.

Another cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and east Assam will bring widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days.

Northwest and east India will also experience widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in East Rajasthan from June 27 to July 1, Uttarakhand and Odisha from June 27 to 29, East Uttar Pradesh on June 28 and 29, Bihar on June 29, and Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on June 29 and 30.

No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected in Northwest India over the next 24 hours, with a drop of 3-5 degrees Celsius thereafter. No significant temperature changes are expected in other parts of the country.

IMD data shows that most places in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands received rainfall today. Maximum temperatures were above normal in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and Odisha.
