IMA Condemns Vandalism at RG Kar Medical College Amid Ongoing Investigations

New Delhi, August 15: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has condemned the recent vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal. The IMA criticized the state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, for failing to maintain public order.

The incident occurred during protests over the rape and murder of a postgraduate student in Chest Medicine. The IMA expressed concerns that the vandalism could lead to the loss of crucial evidence in the ongoing CBI investigations.

Dr. RV Asokan, a member of the IMA, stated, “Such vandalism with impunity points to anarchy and the breaking down of law and order. The state Government is directly responsible for this collapse of public order.”

The IMA has called for an emergency consultation meeting with all its state branches to discuss further actions. Meanwhile, the newly appointed principal of RG Kar Medical College, Suhrita Pal, claimed to have no knowledge about the vandals.

Nurses and hospital staff have demanded increased security following the violence. A hospital staff member, visibly upset, said, “Some people came and broke everything and went away. This is my workplace and I feel like crying when I see this. Many poor people come here and I feel very bad for them.”
