In the recent elections in Jammu & Kashmir, Iltija Mehbooba Mufti, the daughter of Mehbooba Mufti and a candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is trailing with 17,127 votes. She is behind by a margin of 5,067 votes. Despite her efforts, she has struggled to gain ground in her constituency. Iltija has accepted her defeat and expressed gratitude for the affection she received during her campaign. She stated, “I accept the verdict of the people. The love and affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me. Gratitude to my PDP workers who worked so hard throughout this campaign.”

Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference is leading with 22,194 votes, ahead by a comfortable margin. The Election Commission of India has indicated that the Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Congress alliance are leading with 50 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading with 286 seats. The counting is still underway, with 6-15 rounds completed in most of the 90 constituencies.

The election results will determine the political future of several former ministers, including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukha, Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, and Yousuf Tarigami. Meanwhile, Zuhaib Yousuf Mir, a PDP candidate from the Lal Chowk Assembly seat, suggested that they might join the National Conference-Congress alliance to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party from gaining power. He emphasized the importance of forming a secular government to preserve the identity of Kashmir.
