IIT Madras Tops NIRF Rankings Again
Director Kamakoti Credits Team Effort
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 13: IIT Madras has once again secured the top spot in the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) for the sixth consecutive year in the ‘Overall’ category and the ninth year in the ‘Engineering’ category.
Director Kamakoti expressed his happiness and attributed this success to the cohesive efforts of students, staff, alumni, and the support from both state and central governments. He stated, “It’s a happy day for us. The reason for this achievement is our students, staff, alumni, state and central government. We have worked cohesively to get this achievement.”
He also highlighted the importance of NIRF as a ranking mechanism and mentioned various initiatives taken by IIT Madras, including scholarships for over 5000 students below the poverty line in the data science stream. The institute has also started many new courses and departments in the last two years and has successful start-ups like Agnicool and Hyperloop.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the results of the ninth edition of NIRF India Ranking Results on August 12 in New Delhi. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay secured the second and third positions in the engineering category, respectively. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta are among the top five.
The NIRF ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach; inclusivity; and perception. This year, three new categories were introduced, making a total of 16 categories.
