IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru Top NIRF 2024 Rankings

For the sixth year in a row, IIT Madras has secured the top spot in both the ‘overall’ and ‘engineering’ categories in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. IISc Bengaluru has maintained its position as the best university for the ninth consecutive year.

Top Colleges and Universities

Hindu College, Delhi, is ranked number one in the college category, with Miranda House in second place. JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, are in the second and third positions in the university category, respectively. IISc Bangalore is also the second-best institution in the ‘overall’ category.

Engineering and Management

In the engineering category, IIT Madras is followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay in second and third positions. IIM Ahmedabad is the top management institute, followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta among the top five.

Medical and Other Categories

AIIMS New Delhi is the best medical college, retaining its position. In the NIRF 2024 Innovation category, IIT Bombay is first, followed by IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad. The Indira Gandhi National Open University is the top open university, with Netaji Subhash Open University and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University in second and third places.

Pharmacy and State Universities

In the pharmacy category, Jamia Hamdard is first, followed by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad and Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani. Anna University is the top state public university.

This year, 10,885 higher education institutions participated in the NIRF. The ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and perception. Three new categories were introduced this year, making a total of 16 categories.
