The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, celebrated its 59th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm. The event was graced by Padma Shri awardee and classical vocalist Som Datt Battu, who was honored at the occasion. Battu, who received the Padma Shri award in May, shared his insights on music and culture during his address.

Event Highlights

The celebration took place at the Institute’s Pool Theatre and included various cultural and literary performances. The Director of the Institute, Professor Raghavendra P Tiwari, welcomed attendees virtually. Other notable speakers included Professor Shailendra Raj Mehta, Vice Chairman of the Institute, and Professor Shashi Prabha Kumar, Chairperson of the Governing Body, who emphasized the significance of the Institute and its Foundation Day.

Cultural Performances

The program began with a Saraswati Vandana by Kritika Sharma, followed by a dance performance by Trisha Paul. Scholar Aadya Dixit recited poetry, and Nibedita Banerjee performed a Bengali song. Umamaheshwari Anantani presented a theatrical performance titled “Agniputri Panchali.” The event saw participation from the Institute’s officials, Fellows, associates, and staff members.
