Idashisha Nongrang Becomes Meghalaya’s First Female Police Chief
Focuses on Crimes Against Women and Cyber Crime
Idashisha Nongrang, the first female Director General of Police (DGP) in Meghalaya, has raised concerns about the increasing crimes against women and children in the state. During a conference at the Meghalaya Police Headquarters, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Nongrang highlighted that 32% of the total crimes in 2023 were against women and children.
She mentioned that chargesheets were filed in 65% of the cases this year. The conference also addressed the growing issue of cyber crimes. Nongrang proposed the creation of a cyber wing to tackle this challenge, which has been approved by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
Additionally, Nongrang discussed the implementation of three new criminal laws across India. Several training sessions and panel discussions have been conducted to ensure effective implementation of these laws.
