ICC Seeks Explanation from BCCI on India’s Decision Not to Travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy

ICC Requests BCCI’s Written Explanation on India’s Non-Participation in Pakistan

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide a written explanation for its decision not to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. This request follows BCCI’s verbal communication to the ICC about their decision.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s Response

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested the ICC to share India’s written response. If received, Pakistan may demand substantial evidence supporting India’s reasons. The ICC will then decide on India’s participation after reviewing the reasons.

Potential Consequences

If India fails to provide valid reasons, they may be asked to participate in the tournament. Alternatively, another team could replace India if they refuse to travel to Pakistan. Pakistan, the defending champions, plans to start the trophy tour from Islamabad on November 16.

Security Concerns and Alternative Plans

India has cited security concerns for not traveling to Pakistan. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla mentioned that India would only travel if permitted by the Indian government. Last year, Pakistan hosted the Asian Trophy in a hybrid model, with India playing in Sri Lanka. Although hosting the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model is considered, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated no discussions have occurred. South Africa and UAE are potential alternative venues if Pakistan withdraws.
