The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a new social media moderation program to enhance the online experience for teams and players ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This initiative aims to create a positive and inclusive digital environment by using advanced software to protect the cricket community from toxic content, safeguarding mental health and promoting a kinder online space.
Fans will continue to enjoy a variety of content, including highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, live scores, stats, schedules, and standings. ICC Head of Digital, Finn Bradshaw, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, noting the positive reception from players and teams.
The ICC has partnered with GoBubble to utilize AI technology and human resources for monitoring and moderating comments on official social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. This technology will identify and hide toxic content such as hate speech, harassment, and misogyny, ensuring a safer space for fan engagement.
Players can opt into this service to shield their social media channels from harmful comments, allowing them to focus on promoting themselves and the sport in a secure environment. The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will commence at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE on October 3, with the final scheduled for October 20 at the Dubai International Stadium.
