ICAR-NBAIR Bengaluru Hosts Stingless Bee Training for ITBP Personnel
ICAR-National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (NBAIR) in Bengaluru inaugurated a five-day training on meliponiculture, focusing on stingless bees, for twenty Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel.
Importance of Pollinators
Dr. S.N. Sushil, Director of ICAR-NBAIR, emphasized the crucial role of pollinators in agriculture, especially for producing high-value medicinal honey. He encouraged ITBP participants to promote the benefits of pollinators.
Training Details
The training covers both theoretical and practical aspects of meliponiculture, including the biology and behavior of stingless bees, value addition, and honey marketing. A training manual on meliponiculture was also released.
Expert Participation
Ramesh Chand, Team Lead from ITBP, praised the expected benefits of the training. Experts like Dr. K. Subaharan, Dr. A.N. Shylesha, and Dr. T.M. Shivalingaswamy participated in the program. The training was coordinated by Dr. Amala Udayakumar and Dr. T. Prabhulinga, and facilitated by Sanjeev Raina from ITBP.
