IAF’s Female Agniveers Perform Drill at India Gate to Honor Kargil Heroes

New Delhi [India], July 26: The Indian Air Force (IAF) organized a special event at India Gate to showcase the inaugural performance of the IAF’s Agniveervayu Women’s drill team. This event was held to commemorate the ‘Rajat Jayanti Vijay Diwas’ and to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War.

The drill team consisted of 29 Agniveervayu women. One of the team members, Priyanka Sara from Jaipur, shared her journey. She said, “I enrolled for NCC during my schooling and hold an A certificate. My father works in Rajasthan State Transport Corporation, and my mother is a homemaker. I am the first woman in my family to join the armed forces, inspired by the disciplined life and the uniform of the armed forces.”

Priyanka also spoke about the rigorous training they undergo, focusing on building physical and mental stamina. She expressed her pride in being part of the team and her passion for the Indian Air Force.

Earlier on the same day, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. He laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, marking the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas. This day, observed annually on July 26, celebrates the success of Operation Vijay, where Indian forces reclaimed strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
