IAF Chief AP Singh Emphasizes Need for Indigenous Weapons Ahead of Air Force Day
In New Delhi, ahead of Indian Air Force Day, IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh highlighted the importance of developing indigenous weapon systems to address security challenges. He warned that relying on foreign weapons could create a ‘choke point’ due to changing interests. Speaking at a press conference, he stressed the need for weapons to be manufactured in India to avoid supply chain issues and wastage.
Air Chief Marshal Singh urged manufacturing agencies to increase production rates to build capacity. He emphasized that relying on external sources for weapons could lead to complications in conflict situations.
Feedback on Agnipath Scheme
Regarding the Agnipath scheme, Singh mentioned that the Indian Air Force could absorb more than 25% of Agniveers if required, noting positive feedback on the program. However, he stated that the final decision rests with the government.
IAF’s Strike Capability
When questioned about the IAF’s ability to conduct attacks similar to those by Israel, Singh affirmed that the IAF has the capability to strike enemies in foreign lands, as demonstrated in the Balakot air strikes.
