Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 21: Amidst issues with the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam, Motha Rohit, President of the Hyderabad Youth Congress, led a protest at Union Minister Kishan Reddy’s residence in Hyderabad. The protest demanded the cancellation of the exam.

Rohit shared on his official X handle, “Organised a unique protest march to Gherav Union Cabinet Minister Kishan Reddy’s residence in Hyderabad, highlighting how contrary to Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of three wise monkeys which preach ‘see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his NDA Government is preaching ‘they cannot see the injustice, hear about the injustice, and talk or respond to the injustice’ done to the 33 lakh students of NEET and NET.”

He further added, “To oppose this negligence, we have staged a protest at the house of Union Minister Kishan Reddy, demanding his immediate resignation and of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. We, on behalf of the Youth Congress, also demand the cancellation of the NEET exam and its re-conduction.”

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday declined to stay the NEET-UG 2024 counselling process and issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA). A vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti has tagged fresh pleas with pending petitions for a hearing on July 8.

The Supreme Court has also issued a notice to the Centre and NTA on a petition by students from the Meghalaya centre who lost 45 minutes during the exam. These students requested to be included among the 1563 students who received grace marks and were given the option to reappear for the exam on June 23.

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5, with results announced on June 4. Allegations of irregularities and paper leaks arose as 67 students achieved perfect scores. The Supreme Court has allowed a re-test for over 1,500 students who were awarded grace marks.

The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA, is crucial for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in India. On June 13, the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1563 candidates who received grace marks would be cancelled, offering them the option to reappear for the exam on June 23 or forgo the compensatory marks.
