HRCP Calls for Inquiry into Violence Against PTI Supporters and PTM Ban in Pakistan

HRCP Calls for Inquiry into Violence Against PTI Supporters and PTM Ban in Pakistan

HRCP Raises Concerns Over Violence and Political Suppression in Pakistan

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed serious concerns about the government’s actions against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and the increase in violence during protests. The HRCP has called for an “immediate and impartial inquiry” into the severe injuries sustained by PTI supporter Syed Mustafain Kazmi while in police custody.

In a statement, the HRCP also highlighted the death of police officer Hameed Shah during recent PTI-led protests, emphasizing the need to end the normalization of violence. The HRCP’s concerns extend to the government’s decision to ban the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), which the commission criticized as “neither transparent nor warranted.” The PTM, known for its peaceful advocacy for Pashtun rights, has faced increasing restrictions, including bans on protests and gatherings.

The HRCP has urged the government to lift the ban on PTM and release former parliamentarian Ali Wazir unconditionally. The ongoing tension between the PTM and the government highlights deeper issues regarding Pashtun rights and state authority in Pakistan. Critics argue that these measures violate fundamental rights to free expression and assembly, reflecting the struggle for political recognition and justice within the Pashtun community.
