HP Leads in India’s PC Market Growth in Q2 2024, IDC Reports
In the second quarter of 2024, shipments of personal computers in India, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, reached 3.39 million units, showing a 7.1% increase compared to the previous year, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Growth Across Categories
IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker revealed that desktops grew by 5.9%, notebooks by 7.4%, and workstations by 12.4% during the quarter. The consumer segment surged by 11.2% year-on-year, with strong demand in both online and offline channels. The e-tail channel grew by 22.4%, while the commercial segment saw a 3.5% increase.
Market Leaders
HP Inc. led the market in both commercial and consumer segments with shares of 33.5% and 29.7%, respectively. HP also dominated the notebook category with a 34.4% share. Lenovo ranked second, with its shipments growing by 32.7% in the consumer segment and 6.3% in the commercial segment. Dell Technologies stood third, facing challenges in the commercial desktop category but achieving a 6.4% growth in the consumer segment. Acer Group showed a healthy growth of 38.3%, and Asus held the fifth position with a 5.4% increase.
Future Outlook
Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia, and ANZ, commented on the positive outlook for the PC market with the introduction of AI PCs. While AI PCs may not drive significant consumer demand immediately, they are expected to attract gamers and content creators in the medium term and boost commercial orders from the third quarter of 2024 onwards.
