HORIBA Group Opens New Medical Equipment Plant in Nagpur, India

New Delhi, India – Japan-based HORIBA Group, a global conglomerate, has launched its third and largest medical equipment and consumables manufacturing facility in Nagpur, India. Atsushi Horiba, Chairman and Group CEO of HORIBA, emphasized the importance of timing for this investment, noting India’s rapid growth and high potential.

Why Nagpur?

Jai Hakhu, Chairman of HORIBA India, explained that Nagpur’s central location allows for efficient distribution of manufactured items across India. The new plant, costing Rs 200 crore, will primarily serve the domestic market, with 90% of its products used locally and 10% exported to neighboring countries.

Focus on Innovation

The Nagpur facility will include manufacturing, research and development (R&D), and innovation capabilities. Initially, it will produce reagents, with plans to expand into other hematology-focused medical devices. HORIBA also has a dominant position in manufacturing mass flow controllers, essential for semiconductor production, with over 60% global market share.

Future Plans

HORIBA’s strategy is to excel in its core areas, such as mass flow controllers, and expand as needed. The company is also considering investments in India’s eastern and northeastern regions, following the India-Japan Act East Forum’s objectives to develop these areas and enhance connectivity.

HORIBA in India

HORIBA began direct operations in India in 2006 and has offices in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The company operates two other manufacturing facilities in Haridwar and Pune, focusing on automotive, environmental instruments, medical diagnostics, semiconductor components, and scientific instruments.
