On the birth anniversary of freedom fighters Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Chandrashekhar Azad, Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, paid homage to their sacrifices for India’s freedom.

Tributes to Chandrashekhar Azad

Kharge expressed his respect for Azad, stating, “Respectful salutations to the brave son of Mother India, great revolutionary, immortal martyr Chandrashekhar Azad, on his birth anniversary, who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the motherland. The grateful nation will always remain indebted to his sacrifice, dedication, and martyrdom for the country’s freedom.”

Tributes to Bal Gangadhar Tilak

In another post, Kharge honored Tilak, saying, “There is such a thing as public opinion, which despots and dictators fear” ~ Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak…Humble tribute on the birth anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak ji, the great social reformer, founder of the Indian Home Rule League, who played an important role in laying the foundation of India’s freedom movement, who shaped nationalism in the true sense of Indianness, who was dedicated to the Congress throughout his life.”

Congress Party’s Homage

The Indian National Congress also paid tribute to Tilak, stating, “We pay our respects to the proponent of Swaraj, a visionary leader and founder of multiple institutions, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. His slogan, Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it, inspired many during the Indian Freedom Struggle and continues to echo among us.”

Paying tribute to Azad, the Congress said, “Heartfelt tributes on the birth anniversary of the brave son of Mother India, the great hero of the freedom struggle, Chandrashekhar Azad ji.”

Legacy of Tilak and Azad

Bal Gangadhar Tilak, a scholar, mathematician, philosopher, and passionate nationalist, helped create the framework for India’s independence by turning his opposition to British rule into a movement. He was the president of the Indian Home Rule League when it was created in 1914 and signed the Lucknow Pact in 1916 with Mohammed Ali Jinnah, ensuring Hindu-Muslim cooperation in the nationalist movement.

Chandrashekhar Azad was a revolutionary who formed and led a group of young people in the freedom movement. He played a crucial role in reorganizing the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) after many of its members were killed or imprisoned.
