Hockey Jharkhand and Odisha Win Big at Junior Women’s and Men’s East Zone Championship 2024
The 2nd Hockey India Junior Men & Women East Zone Championship 2024 concluded with thrilling matches at the Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre, Salt Lake in Kolkata.
Women’s Category
Hockey Jharkhand clinched the title by defeating Hockey Bengal in a dramatic shootout. The match ended 1-1 in regular time with goals from Mundu Sukarmani (32′) for Jharkhand and Lalpeksangi (34′) for Bengal. In the shootout, Salomi Nag and Roshni Aind scored to secure the win for Jharkhand.
In the 3rd/4th place match, Hockey Association of Odisha beat Manipur Hockey 0-0 (4-3 SO) in a shootout. Captain Drupati Naik and Supriya scored in the sudden death to confirm Odisha’s victory.
Men’s Category
Hockey Association of Odisha won the Men’s final by defeating Hockey Jharkhand 2-0. Aryan Xess (25′) and Deonath Nanwar (27′) scored for Odisha in the second quarter, maintaining their lead to win the match.
Manipur Hockey claimed third place by beating Hockey Bihar 7-2. Thokchom Thonglen (15′), Ningombam Amarjit Singh (16′, 40′), Captain Silheiba Lisham (25′, 54′), Ricky Tonjam (34′), and Khangembam Somikant Singh (50′) scored for Manipur, while Aakash Yadav (18′) and Atit Kumar (28′) scored for Bihar.
