The Hockey India League (HIL) is back after a seven-year hiatus, with auctions taking place from October 13 to 15. Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey expressed his happiness with the positive response from stakeholders. The league aims to support young players and coaches.

Exciting Auction Highlights

On the first day of the auction, 54 players, including 18 from overseas, were sold. The eight franchises spent a total of 16 crores 88 lakhs 50 thousand. Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh became the most expensive player, bought by Soorma Hockey Club for 78 lakh. Abhishek was the second-highest, acquired by Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for 72 lakh, while Hardik Singh went to UP Rudras for 70 lakh.

Top International Buys

Germany’s Gonzalo Peillat was the most expensive overseas player at 68 lakh, followed by the Netherlands’ Jip Janssen at 54 lakh. Other notable international players included Lars Balk and Duco Telgenkamp from the Netherlands, and goalkeepers David Harte from Ireland, Jean-Paul Danneberg from Germany, and Pirmin Blaak from the Netherlands.
