Hoax Bomb Threats Disrupt Flights: SpiceJet, AirAsia, and IndiGo Affected
On October 19, multiple airlines in India received hoax bomb threats, causing disruptions and heightened security measures. SpiceJet and AirAsia each received five threats, affecting flights SG 55, SG 116, SG 211, SG 476, SG 2939, and 9I 506, 9I 528, 9I 822, 9I 661, 9I 804, respectively. In total, 30 threats have been reported recently.
At Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, flight S5 223 was moved to an isolation bay after a threat was received. Passengers were safely deboarded following a security check, and the aircraft was cleared by 4:10 pm.
IndiGo’s flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh also faced a hoax threat. Passengers were evacuated safely, and the airline expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is working on stricter laws to address such threats. Proposed amendments to the Aircraft Act, 1934, and Aircraft Rules, 1937, include a 5-year imprisonment and a no-fly list for offenders.
