Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has achieved a significant milestone by earning Rs 70 crores in August 2024. This marks a 37.5% increase from the Rs 51 crores earned in August 2023 and is also higher than the Rs 58 crores earned in August 2022.

Reasons for Revenue Increase

Rohan Chand Thakur, Managing Director of HRTC, attributed this impressive growth to several factors:

  • Day-to-day monitoring of revenue targets

  • Route rationalization
  • Efforts to maintain operations despite severe monsoon disruptions

In the first five months of fiscal 2024-25 (April-August), HRTC has earned Rs 48 crores more compared to the same period in 2023.

Impact of Increased Revenue

With the increased revenue, HRTC has been able to:

  • Make timely payments to suppliers of spare parts and diesel
  • Meet salary obligations

The new ticket management and inventory management systems have also contributed significantly to passenger ease and cost management. Thakur expressed hope that HRTC revenues could increase by as much as Rs 80 crores above last year, marking a significant achievement.

Asia’s Longest Bus Route

Among its various routes, HRTC operates Asia’s longest bus route from District Lahaul Spiti Keylong Depot Leh to Delhi. The route covers a total distance of 1072 km and takes approximately 35-36 hours, passing through:

  • Atal Tunnel
  • Rohtang
  • Manali
  • Kullu
  • Mandi
  • Bilaspur
  • Chandigarh
  • Leh
  • Delhi
