Himachal Pradesh’s New Rule for Eateries: Rajeev Shukla Defends Decision

Himachal Pradesh AICC incharge Rajeev Shukla has defended the state government’s order for eateries to display the names of their owners. He stated that this measure ensures only authorized persons can set up shops.

Ensuring Food Hygiene

Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh explained that the rule aims to maintain food hygiene. He mentioned that the decision was made during a joint meeting with the Public Works Urban Development and Municipal Corporation. The rule requires every shopkeeper and street vendor to display their identification.

Public Concerns

Vikramaditya Singh noted that people had expressed concerns about the hygiene of food sold on the street. To address these concerns, the policy mandates that vendors display their names and IDs, similar to a policy in Uttar Pradesh.

Regulating Hawkers

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker has formed an all-party committee to regulate hawkers and issue licenses. This directive follows the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent order that food vendors must display the names and addresses of operators, proprietors, and managers. Additionally, chefs and waiters in Uttar Pradesh are required to wear masks and gloves, and CCTV cameras must be installed in hotels and restaurants.
