Himachal Pradesh Police’s Big Operation Against Drug Trade

On September 15, the Himachal Pradesh Police launched a major operation to fight illegal drug activities across multiple districts. This operation aimed to break down drug trafficking networks, find key operators, trace their assets, and help people suffering from drug addiction.

Massive Raids Across Districts

A total of 42 teams conducted 42 raids in the districts of Kangra, Nurpur, Chamba, Una, and Bilaspur. The operation was carried out under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The teams were led by IG, NR, with support from a special team at Police Headquarters.

District Number of Raids
Kangra 8
Nurpur 10
Una 6
Bilaspur 11

Results of the Raids

During the raids, the police arrested 8 people, filed four cases under the NDPS Act, and seized 5 kg of poppy husk and 25 grams of chitta (heroin). They also impounded three vehicles linked to the drug trade. Additionally, four liquor cases were registered under the Excise Act, leading to the confiscation of 57 litres of illicit liquor.

Further Actions

One suspect’s house was found to be built on encroached government land, and local authorities have been informed for further action. A dedicated team is now examining digital devices and other materials seized during the raids to find more information about the drug trade.

Helping Addicts

About 40 individuals involved in small NDPS cases and suffering from addiction were encouraged to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment. This is the first time in the state’s history that addicts are being treated as victims and given a chance to recover and reintegrate into society.

Call for Public Support
