Himachal Pradesh Ministers Urge Peace Amid Sanjauli Mosque Protests

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], September 11: Amid protests against the alleged illegal construction of the Sanjauli mosque, Himachal Pradesh Minister Rohit Thakur urged citizens to trust the law and maintain peace. He highlighted the state’s history of no communal violence and called for peaceful demonstrations.

Thakur said, “There have never been communal rights in our state. Himachal is known as Devbhoomi. Currently, the situation is normal and everyday public life is running smoothly. I appeal to all sections of society to trust the law and the proud history of Himachal Pradesh, especially when it comes to peace. Protesting is the right of the people, but everything should happen within the limits of the law. I again appeal to all sections of society to trust the law and ensure that everything, including protests, is done peacefully.”

Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh added that protests should not disturb the peace and that the government would act if the mosque is illegal. He stated, “The situation is very clear. Everyone has the right to protest peacefully, and the government has said this, but there should not arise a situation that affects the peaceful environment. The police have taken preventive measures, and Section 163 has been imposed, turning the area into a police camp to maintain law and order. If the construction is found illegal, action will be taken after the Municipal Commissioner’s order.”

Earlier, as protests intensified, police used water cannons and lathicharge to disperse protestors heading towards the Sanjauli area of Shimla. Protestors clashed with security forces while entering the Dhalli Tunnel East portal during their march. The protests were called by Hindu organizations over the alleged illegal construction of the Sanjauli mosque.
