Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh Addresses Vendor Identification Controversy

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), September 26 – The Himachal Pradesh government’s decision to require vendors to display their details has upset some minority leaders within the party. These leaders plan to voice their concerns to the party high command soon.

During the Kanwar Yatra, the Uttar Pradesh government had mandated vendors to display their names, which was opposed by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. The Supreme Court later stayed this order in July, which was widely praised.

Now, similar discontent has arisen in Himachal Pradesh, where Congress is in power. Minority leaders argue that they had accepted the state’s stance on the Sanjauli mosque controversy, despite many issues being raised.

Minister Vikramaditya Singh informed the party high command that the issue of increasing street vendors in hilly areas, including Shimla, has gained momentum. A committee was formed to regulate these vendors, and it was decided that regulations would be based on Aadhaar cards and identity documents, not to create a situation like in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress in-charge for Himachal, Rajeev Shukla, has submitted a report on managing the situation. The party is expected to present its official stance on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Vikramaditya Singh stated that the order for mandatory display of vendor details was issued during a joint meeting with the Public Works Urban Development and Municipal Corporation. He emphasized that the decision aims to ensure hygienic food sales.
