Support for Abandoned and Surrendered Children
The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to expand the Mukhyamantri Sukhashrya Yojana to include abandoned and surrendered children. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the scheme, which currently aids around 6,000 orphan children, will now extend its support to more children in need.
Definition of Beneficiaries
An abandoned child is one deserted by parents or guardians, while a surrendered child is relinquished due to factors beyond parental control. Eligible children will receive certificates from district child welfare committees.
Benefits Under the Scheme
Children will receive monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 until age 14 and Rs 2,500 until age 18. They will also get Rs 4,000 in pocket money monthly until age 27. The state will cover higher education costs and provide Rs 3,000 for PG expenses if a hostel is unavailable.
Additional Support
The government will offer Rs 2 lakh for start-ups, Rs 2 lakh for marriage help, and Rs 3 lakh for land and home building. An annual air travel experience with a three-star hotel stay is also included to broaden their horizons.
