Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana: A New Initiative in Himachal Pradesh
Introduction
The government of Himachal Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is introducing a new scheme called the ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana.’ This initiative aims to provide financial support to widows, destitute women, divorced women, and disabled parents to help with their children’s education and well-being.
Financial Assistance Details
The scheme targets two age groups. For children under 18, eligible women and disabled parents will receive a monthly grant of Rs. 1000 to cover educational, health, and nutritional expenses. Additionally, children who gain admission to undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, or vocational courses will receive financial aid for tuition and hostel expenses.
Objectives and Benefits
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that women who are widowed, deserted, or abandoned face significant challenges in supporting their children due to a lack of resources. The scheme aims to prevent crimes like child abuse, trafficking, teenage marriages, and drug abuse by strengthening family-level child protection. It also addresses the needs of children with disabled parents, acknowledging the link between disability, unemployment, and poverty.
Application Process
Applications for the scheme can be submitted to the local Child Development Project Officer. The government is committed to creating a supportive environment for vulnerable families, ensuring children receive the education and care they need for dignified lives.
Government’s Commitment
From the beginning, the current state government has focused on giving a voice to underprivileged sections and has launched various initiatives to support them. Chief Minister Sukhu stated, “As a sensitive government, we are committed to the well-being of every individual.”
