Himachal Pradesh Enhances Medical Education and Healthcare

New Post Graduate Courses at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the introduction of Post Graduate courses at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College (RKGMC) in Hamirpur. The state government has approved the hiring of six associate professors and ten assistant professors in key departments such as General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia, and Radiology.

Strengthening Healthcare Services

CM Sukhu emphasized the importance of specialists in healthcare services, stating the need for PG courses to improve patient care. Certificates for PG courses in Ophthalmology, Dermatology, and Physiology have been issued. Additionally, 150 nursing positions have been sanctioned to enhance patient care and working conditions for staff.

Commitment to Optimal Staffing

The government aims for optimal patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:1 in ICUs, 1:2 in labor rooms, and 1:4 in antenatal wards. Over the past year, 1182 new posts have been approved for Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda, Kangra.

Modernizing Healthcare Infrastructure

Efforts are underway to improve staffing and infrastructure at other medical colleges, including Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College Nahan, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College Chamba, and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital Ner Chowk Mandi. World-class medical equipment is being procured to modernize healthcare, ensuring residents receive quality services locally.
