Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Announces Compensation for Kangra Airport Expansion
In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the state government has started awarding compensation for the expansion of Kangra airport. This fulfills a promise made in the government’s first budget. The compensation process begins with Rs 32.50 crore being disbursed to landowners in Jugehar village, Shahpur area, Kangra district. Over time, approximately Rs 3500 crore will be provided for compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement of landowners affected by the airport expansion.
CM Sukhu stated that the landowners of Jugehar village have welcomed this move, as it addresses their long-standing demand. The expansion of Kangra Airport is a priority for the government to boost tourism in the region. The project aims to establish Kangra district as the Tourism Capital of the state by extending the runway from 1376 meters to 3010 meters, allowing A320 aircraft operations.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the airport expansion will create new employment and self-employment opportunities, leading to economic prosperity for the people of Kangra district.
