Himachal Pradesh Government Supports Construction Workers

Financial Aid Announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu

In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the state government has distributed Rs 32.32 crores to support construction workers through the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (HPBOCW). This aid has been provided to 8,883 registered beneficiaries.

Breakdown of Financial Assistance

The government has allocated Rs 10.59 crore for educational assistance to 3,514 workers’ children. Additionally, Rs 12.97 crore has been given as marriage assistance to 2,543 workers. Under maternity and paternity benefits, Rs 1.71 crore has been distributed to 537 workers. Medical assistance of Rs 35.85 lakh has been provided to 248 workers, and Rs 85.13 lakh has been allocated under a monthly pension scheme.

Additional Benefits

The board also offers Rs 51,000 for the birth of the first two daughters to workers. Eligibility for these benefits requires working at least 90 days a year in private construction, MGNREGA, or government projects. Up to August, 10,182 new workers have registered for these benefits.

Commitment to Worker Welfare

CM Sukhu emphasized the government’s commitment to worker welfare, with 13 schemes currently in place. These include direct cash transfers and health check-ups. Registration and scheme implementation are managed through district labor welfare offices.
