Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 3: The Himachal Pradesh government is set to enhance infrastructure and strengthen resources in all state medical colleges, announced Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during a review meeting of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Govt. Medical College and Hospital (RPGMCH) Tanda.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the need for more specialist doctors and staff in these institutions. He stressed that health institutions should be upgraded with future requirements and modern techniques in mind. He also instructed to increase the number of postgraduate seats in medical colleges and address any deficiencies.

For quality healthcare, a staff nurse will be deployed for every six patients. Reviewing ongoing projects at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, the Chief Minister said that waiting times for consultations would be reduced and counseling periods extended. He also directed to increase the number of registration counters to facilitate people.

A ‘Center of Excellence in Mental Health’ with a 100-bed capacity is being developed in Tanda and will be operational soon. B.Sc Nursing classes will also commence here. In 2023, Tanda Medical College treated 605,489 patients, including 72,069 by the medicine unit, 56,124 by orthopedics, and 25,856 in general surgery.

The Chief Minister approved filling various posts, including specialist doctors and paramedics, at Tanda Medical College. At Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, he directed the creation and filling of various posts to ensure world-class healthcare. He assured additional budgetary provisions for building maintenance. In 2023, Indira Gandhi Medical College treated 872,829 patients across various departments.

The Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties at Chamyana in Shimla is also being strengthened to provide the best medical facilities and care to patients.
