Himachal Pradesh By-Elections: Voter Turnout and Key Candidates

In Himachal Pradesh, by-elections for three assembly seats recorded an average voter turnout of 15.96%, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Hamirpur had a turnout of 15.71%, Nalagarh 16.48%, and Dehra 15.70%.

Key Candidates

The BJP has fielded Hoshiyar Singh for the Dehra Assembly seat, Ashish Sharma for Hamirpur, and KL Thakur for Nalagarh. Congress candidates include Pushpendra Verma for Hamirpur, Hardeep Singh Bawa for Nalagarh, and Kamlesh Thakur, the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, for Dehra.

Chief Minister’s Appeal

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu urged the people of Dehra, Nalagarh, and Hamirpur to vote in large numbers in the by-elections.

BJP’s Criticism

BJP leader and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur criticized the current government, accusing it of failing on multiple fronts and losing popularity quickly.

Polling Preparations

On July 9, 217 parties were dispatched to their respective polling stations. A total of 315 polling stations have been set up for the by-elections in Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh Assembly Constituencies.
