Himachal Pradesh By-Elections: Voter Turnout and Key Candidates

The by-elections in Himachal Pradesh for Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh recorded an average voter turnout of 32.6%, according to the Election Commission of India. Dehra had 31.61%, Hamirpur 31.81%, and Nalagarh 34.63% voter turnout.

Earlier in the day, by 9 a.m., Dehra had recorded 15.70%, Hamirpur 15.71%, and Nalagarh 16.48% voter turnout.

The BJP has fielded Hoshiyar Singh from Dehra, Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur, and KL Thakur from Nalagarh. Congress candidates include Pushpendra Verma (Hamirpur), Hardeep Singh Bawa (Nalagarh), and Kamlesh Thakur, the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, from Dehra.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu urged the people to vote in large numbers. Former CM and BJP leader Jairam Thakur criticized the current government, accusing it of failing on multiple fronts and stalling the state’s development.

On July 9, 217 parties were dispatched to their polling stations, and a total of 315 polling stations were set up for the by-elections in Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh.
