Hezbollah No Longer Demands Gaza Truce for Lebanon Ceasefire

Amid escalating tensions, Israel has intensified its military actions by deploying ground troops across the Lebanese-Israeli border and conducting airstrikes on Beirut. In response, Hezbollah has dropped its demand for a truce in Gaza as a condition for a ceasefire in Lebanon. Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General, Naim Qassem, expressed support for political efforts led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to achieve a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the United States and Arab states are engaging in covert talks with Iran to establish a comprehensive ceasefire across all conflict zones. A senior Israeli official stated that any ceasefire would require Hezbollah’s withdrawal beyond the Litani River and the dismantling of military sites near the border.

US President Joe Biden is expected to discuss Israel’s plans with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including potential strikes on Iran and the ongoing conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza. The US State Department has expressed skepticism about Hezbollah’s intentions, citing past failures to honor commitments.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, Hezbollah’s successor to Hassan Nasrallah, and urged the Lebanese people to oppose Hezbollah’s influence.
