Hezbollah Leader Hashem Safieddine Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Beirut

In a significant development, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced that Hashem Safieddine, a key Hezbollah official, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut earlier this month. Safieddine, who was the head of Hezbollah’s executive council, was considered a potential successor to Hassan Nasrallah, the former leader of Hezbollah, who was also killed in a previous airstrike in September.

The airstrike, which took place on October 4, targeted Hezbollah’s underground intelligence headquarters located in the southern suburb of Beirut, known as Dahiyeh. This area is described as being “in the heart of a civilian population.” Alongside Safieddine, Hussein Ali Hazima, the Commander of Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters, was also killed. The IDF reported that over 25 members of Hezbollah’s intelligence division, including other top commanders, were present at the headquarters during the strike.

Hashem Safieddine, a cousin of Hassan Nasrallah, played a significant role in Hezbollah’s decision-making processes and was involved in directing terrorist attacks against Israel. The US State Department had designated him as a terrorist in 2017. Despite the IDF’s confirmation of his death, Hezbollah has not yet released an official statement.

The IDF shared a statement on social media, confirming the elimination of both Safieddine and Hazima, highlighting their roles within Hezbollah and their involvement in attacks against IDF soldiers.
