Hezbollah Fires Rockets at Israel After Commander Killed in Airstrike

Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group, launched around 100 rockets at Israel following the death of their top commander, Muhammad Nimah Nasser, in an Israeli airstrike. Nasser, also known as ‘Hajj Abu Naameh,’ was killed in the Hosh area of Tyre, southern Lebanon.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the need for heightened security in northern Israel. Some far-right ministers in Israel are calling for a full-scale invasion of Hezbollah-controlled territory in Lebanon.

Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has warned of readiness for an all-out war with Israel. The conflict has been ongoing for nearly nine months, with periodic flare-ups causing regional instability.

International efforts to de-escalate the situation are underway. French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to avoid actions that could ignite a broader conflict. U.S. Envoy Amos Hochstein is coordinating with French counterparts to seek mediation and ceasefire negotiations.

The conflict has resulted in significant civilian casualties. Lebanese authorities report over 543 deaths, including 88 civilians, due to Israeli attacks. In Israel, at least 21 people, including 10 civilians, have died from Hezbollah’s rocket fire and other attacks.
