Hezbollah Considers US-Israeli Ceasefire Proposal Amid Middle East Tensions

Hezbollah Considers US-Israeli Ceasefire Proposal

In Tel Aviv, Israel, diplomatic efforts are intensifying to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Hezbollah is currently considering a ceasefire proposal presented by the US and Israel. The US ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, delivered the proposal to the Lebanese government, and officials are hopeful that Hezbollah will agree to the terms. An official response is expected by next Monday.

Diplomatic Efforts and Key Figures

Lisa Johnson, the US Ambassador to Lebanon, discussed the proposal with Nabih Berri, Lebanon’s Speaker of Parliament, who is closely associated with Hezbollah. This proposal is the first since a temporary ceasefire was disrupted by the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a bombing in Beirut.

US President-elect Donald Trump has shown support for the negotiations, which are led by Amos Hochstein, the Biden administration’s special envoy to Lebanon. The proposal aims for a 60-day peace, aligning with UN Resolution 1701, which ended the Lebanon-Israel war in 2006.

Details of the Proposal

The proposal focuses on the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the area south of Lebanon’s Litani River and addresses smuggling routes across international borders. Earlier, Hezbollah claimed an attack on the Tel Haim military base in Tel Aviv, following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. Hezbollah has been launching rockets and drones at northern Israel, displacing over 68,000 residents.
