Hemant Soren to Celebrate Hul Diwas in Bhognadih After Release from Jail
Jharkhand Minister Basant Soren announced that his brother, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will visit Bhognadih village to celebrate Hul Diwas on Sunday. This follows Hemant Soren’s release from Birsa Munda Jail after a bail order from the Jharkhand High Court.
Celebration of Hul Diwas
Hul Diwas marks the 169th anniversary of the Santhal Hul (Santhal Rebellion), a significant event in Jharkhand’s history. Bhognadih, the birthplace of Sido Murmu, a hero of the rebellion, will host the celebrations.
Hemant Soren’s Legal Battle
Hemant Soren was released from jail after facing a probe in an alleged land scam case. The investigation involved the forgery of official records to acquire large parcels of land. Soren’s release was seen as a triumph of truth and justice by his supporters.
Details of the Case
The case involved substantial proceeds generated through fake sellers and buyers. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed to have recovered Rs 36 lakh in cash and documents related to the investigation. Soren had alleged that the ED’s actions were aimed at tarnishing his image and harassing him for being a tribal.
Judicial Proceedings
On March 22, a Special PMLA court extended Soren’s judicial custody until April 4. The Jharkhand High Court had previously ordered no coercive action against ED officials after the agency filed a petition challenging Soren’s FIR. Soren’s petition to attend the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly’s budget session was dismissed by the High Court on February 29.
