Hemant Soren to Become Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Again

Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan has invited Hemant Soren, president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), to form the government in the state. This invitation comes a day after Champai Soren resigned from the Chief Minister’s post.

Swearing-In Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony for Hemant Soren is scheduled for July 7, according to Supriyo Bhattacharya, general secretary of the JMM. Bhattacharya stated, “Governor has invited us to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on July 7.”

Champai Soren’s Resignation

Champai Soren resigned from his position just five months after taking the oath, allowing Hemant Soren to take over the role again. Champai Soren explained, “A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister.”

Background

Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months following bail from Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
