Raj Bhavan has invited leaders of the INDIA alliance, including Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren, after Chief Minister Champai Soren resigned from his post. Other leaders invited include state Congress president Rajesh Thakur and RJD leader Satyanand Bhakta.

Champai Soren resigned just five months after taking the oath, paving the way for Hemant Soren to return as Chief Minister. Champai Soren stated, “A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister.”

Champai Soren took oath as Chief Minister on February 2. Hemant Soren, who was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months, is set to take over. He had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31 in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

Champai Soren, the state transport minister, is a seven-time MLA representing the Seraikella constituency. Before joining the JMM, he was an independent MLA.
