Hemant Soren to Become Chief Minister of Jharkhand Again

Hemant Soren, the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), will take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand at 5 pm today. This was confirmed by sources from the Raj Bhavan.

Earlier today, Jharkhand Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan invited Soren to form the government, following the resignation of Champai Soren from the chief minister’s post. Hemant Soren, along with leaders of the INDIA bloc, arrived at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi where he was appointed as the CM-designate by the Governor.

On social media platform ‘X’, Hemant Soren criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, stating that the end of the “anti-democracy conspiracy” hatched by the opposition has begun. He wrote, “Thank you His Excellency the Governor. The end of the anti-democracy conspiracy hatched by the opposition has begun. Satyamev Jayate.”

Champai Soren resigned from the post just five months after taking the oath, allowing Hemant Soren to take over the role again. Champai Soren said, “A few days ago, I was made the Chief Minister and I got the responsibility of the state. After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose Hemant Soren as our leader. Now, I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister.”

Champai Soren took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand in the Raj Bhavan on February 2 this year. Hemant Soren, after staking a claim to form the government, said that all details would be shared soon. He stated, “The CM (Champai Soren) has told you everything…We will tell you everything in detail. We have followed all procedures.”

Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28 after nearly five months following bail from Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
