Former Indian cricketers Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao have been appointed as the head coach and director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The announcement was made by the franchise, co-owned by JSW-GMR, as they prepare for the upcoming IPL mega auction.

New Roles for Badani and Rao

Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Chairman and Co-owner of Delhi Capitals, expressed excitement about the new appointments, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Hemang and Venu to Delhi Capitals. Both have been an integral part of our team for a long time, and we are excited to have them on board in a different role.”

Badani, who has a rich coaching background, said, “It is my absolute honour to be joining Delhi Capitals, and I am deeply grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job.”

Experience and Achievements

Venugopal Rao, who played 16 ODIs for India, was part of the 2009 IPL-winning squad with Deccan Chargers and has experience with the Delhi Daredevils. Badani, with his impressive coaching profile, has worked with Sunrisers Hyderabad and led the Jaffna Kings to two Lankan Premier League titles.

Delhi Capitals’ Aspirations

DC CEO Sunil Gupta welcomed the new coaching staff, emphasizing their familiarity with the team’s philosophy. The team aims to leverage their expertise to achieve success in the new IPL cycle, following a season where they narrowly missed the playoffs.
