Helicopter Crashes in Kedarnath During Airlift by MI-17 Aircraft

A helicopter, which was being airlifted by an MI-17 aircraft to Gauchar airstrip for repair work, crashed in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand on Saturday. The MI-17 aircraft started losing balance due to the weight of the helicopter and wind, prompting the pilot to drop the helicopter into an empty space in the valley.

Details of the Incident

District Tourism Officer Rahul Chaubey explained that the plan was to transport the helicopter to Gauchar airstrip for repairs. However, the MI-17 lost balance shortly after taking off, leading to the emergency drop near Tharu camp. Fortunately, there were no passengers or luggage on board, and no lives were lost.

A rescue team arrived at the scene promptly to inspect the situation. Chaubey also mentioned that the same private helicopter had previously made an emergency landing near the Kedarnath helipad on May 24 due to technical faults.

Previous Helicopter Crash in Pune

On August 24, a private helicopter belonging to an aviation company crashed near Paud village in Pune while traveling from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The helicopter had four people on board, including the captain, who sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The other three passengers are in stable condition.
