Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 1: Heavy rains have caused severe damage in Uttarakhand, leading to the death of at least 10 people and the destruction of both a concrete bridge and a footbridge on the Kedarnath route. Uttarakhand State Disaster Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed the damage and ongoing efforts to clear obstructed routes.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the disaster-affected areas and held a review meeting with officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre. He stated that rescue teams have been working throughout the night to relocate people to safety. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of staying in constant communication with local administration and instructed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to remain on high alert.

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing in severely affected areas such as Rambada, Bhimbali, and Jakhaniyali. The Chief Minister assured that necessary funds for evacuation, relief, and rehabilitation will be sanctioned immediately. District Magistrates have been directed to prioritize public safety and take immediate action upon receiving disaster information.

The Uttarakhand government has issued a safety advisory for Chardham Yatra pilgrims, urging them to delay their journeys due to forecasts of heavy rainfall. DGP Abhinav Kumar has advised pilgrims to be cautious and follow local authorities’ instructions, emphasizing that safety is the top priority.
